Robert Trent Jones defined quite a golf experience when he christened the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. You'll find eighteen of some of the best courses in the U.S, starting at the northern end of Alabama at Huntsville with Hampton Cove and Muscle Shoals all the way to Mobile Bay in the southern end of the state.
If you're looking for good golf and cheap golf, you'll find playing these courses are some of the most affordable...plus just imagine having a choice of 468 holes of challenging golf that offers diverse scenery and golf course designs.
The best way is to travel I-65 and slip off at your choice of golf course and area. All of the courses are just about five to fifteen miles off the interstate and each is about two hours from the other.
It makes for an exciting golf vacation to stay and play several of the courses in a group.
All golfers from the beginners to the most experienced, can enjoy this golf experience. You can choose from a slope of 126 on the Senator Course at Capitol hill all the way to the newest course in the group which is the Legislator (also at Capitol Hill) with a slope of 144! That's Championship golf by anybody's definition.
But don't be scared off, one great thing about all of the courses on the RTJ Trail are the teeboxes, which are designed to meet your ability, so you can play anywhere from 4,700 yards up to 7,700 yards. It's all up to you.
If you should elect to stay in the Birmingham area, you have your choice of Oxmoor Valley, Silver Lakes and Ross Bridge. The State Capitol area offers Capitol Hill in Prattsville with 1500 acres of golf, plus Cambrian Ridge in Greenville and the Grand National courses in Auburn.
In the South in the Mobile area you'll find Magnolia Grove with 54 holes of great golf, Lakewood Golf Club with 36 holes of golf.
