Pebble Beach Golf - Put this one
your "Bucket List"!
Numero Uno, Number 1 in the top 100...If you haven't played Pebble Beach - you owe it to yourself to do this soon!
Put it on your "bucket list". It's been like a siren's song for more than 80 years...and it only gets better! Pebble Beach is the ultimate golf destination
and a round of golf at Pebble Beach, the most coveted round of golf by all
golfers. Pebble Beach is perhaps the most scenic golf course in the world,
certainly in the U.S. The rock outcroppings along the coast, the waves breaking
across the rocks, the lone Cypress and the beautiful views of Carmel Bay add to
its splendor.
The
course was designed with the coastline in mind, the 17th and 18th holes hug the
coastline and present such awesome views, it's sometimes hard to make the shots,
(at least for those of us who do not play Pebble on a regular basis).
Many tournaments are played at the Pebble Beach golf course, the U.S. Open has
been played there five times since 1972. The AT&T National Pro Am is a regular
annual event and attracts movie stars and other greats since the days when Bing
Crosby first hosted the event.
Pebble Beach is about 130 miles down the coast from San Francisco and of course
you can fly into Monterey, but driving down 101 from San Francisco can be an unmatched thrill, the views are surreal, especially if there's just a small amount of mist. It's
a truly memorable trip. 17 Mile Drive encompasses Pebble Beach and from the Lone Cypress Tree to Seal Rock to Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill it is unforgettable scenery. One of favorite places in the world! In the early morning hours the mist shrouds everything, but usually it is lifted by eleven and the brilliant sun breaks through on the golf game of your life...and if you take a mate, the most romantic thing in the world is a stunning sunset, as the bagpiper wends his way over hill and dale at The Inn at Spanish Bay.
Notice
the deer grazing at Spyglass, used to be they would come right up to you and beg
for the cigarettes in your pocket. Don't know what they do now that very few
smoke any longer. But be sure to put spyglass on your golf itinerary and perhaps
you'll find out!
The public courses include Poppy Hills, the Links at Spanish Bay which you can play when you stay at the Inn, Spyglass Hill which was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and of course, the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links with the Lodge, shops and dining.
And if you take a day off from golf, you can always venture forth and enjoy the other attractions. Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Carmel Mission plus seal and whale watching.
Never mind the cost, for just once go first class all the way!!! You'll never forget this golf vacation.
"If I had only one more round to play, I would choose to play it at Pebble Beach. I've loved this course from the first time I saw it. It's possibly the best in the world." --Jack Nicklaus
