This is not your average golf destination, but Carne Golf Links (also known as Belmullet Golf Links) is a once in a lifetime experience. Golf holes linked along the Atlantic coastline; resemble a string of pearls, each one individual in its beauty with undulating fairways and rugged dunes. There are several elevated greens that sometimes are blind, reminiscent of Bermuda. The first hole is a par four with a green guarded by dunes and the sea, so right away you're into a very exciting game of golf. And back to the reference to Gaelic above, four holes on the back nine are named after the Children of Lir, famous in Irish mythology, and in fact Carne’s logo with its swan in the center was styled after the legend. This golf course is indeed a star in the crown of Eddie Hackett who also brought Connemara and Enniscrone into being. Drama and beauty along with God's handiwork make these courses some of the very best in Ireland if not the world.
