Air travel tips for golfers! Today it pays to know all about baggage and baggage check-in before you get to the airport! Following are major airlines and how they treat golf clubs and other golf travel items. And do remember our travel tip about fertilizer on your golf clubs (Clean golf Clubs before traveling! Fertilizers can leave residue that sets off bomb detectors). You don't want to miss your tee time! Also take a look at a

American Airlines
offers these guidelines for traveling with golf clubs:
One golf bag containing no more than 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls and
one pair of golf shoes - Charged the applicable checked bag charge for
the 1st or 2nd checked bag. ($35.00 for second bag) When in excess, each
item will be subject to the baggage charge for a single piece. Maximum
free weight on golf clubs is 70 lbs. Size is limited to the size of a
hard-sided golf case.

Continental Air Lines offers the following for
Golf Equipment - Continental accepts one item of golf equipment per customer as
checked baggage.
An item of golf equipment consists of:
1 golf bag containing 1 set of golf clubs. Golf balls, 1 pair golf shoes.
All items must be properly encased in a suitable container. The golf bag must be
covered or enclosed in a heavy, rigid carrying case.
Continental is not liable for damage to Golf Equipment that is not contained in
a hard-sided case.
Excess Valuation may not be purchased for Golf Equipment that is not contained
in a hard-sided case.
If applicable, the first or second fee applies to golf equipment.
Golfing equipment containers measuring over 62" (157 cm) L+H+W that contain
other items in addition to or in place of appropriate golf equipment will be
subject to an oversize fee.
Note: All customers, including OnePass Elite members, who check a golf bag will
experience a delay in receiving their bag at the baggage claim due to way
oversized items and sports equipment are required to be loaded, unloaded and
delivered to baggage claim. check

Headed to the golf course? You may check one golf bag with a maximum weight of
50 lbs. If the bag exceeds 50 lbs., we can accept the bag, but overweight
baggage fees will apply. The linear dimension may exceed 80 inches (203 cm). One
item of golfing equipment is defined as one golf bag. Golf clubs will be
accepted as checked baggage under the following conditions:
Golf bag is packaged within a hard-shell case
Golf bag is packaged within a soft-sided golf club travel bag after a limited
release has been signed
Delta is not responsible for damage noted at the time of check-in or damage due
to over-packing the bag.

Golfing Equipment:
Items of golfing equipment will be accepted as checked baggage subject to the
applicable checked baggage charges. (For the purpose of this provision one item
of golfing equipment is defined as one golf bag containing not more than 14 golf
clubs, 12 golf balls, and one pair of golf shoes.) HA will not be liable for any
golfing equipment that is not in a hard shell case. A liability release form
must be signed by the passenger at the time they check-in the golfing equipment.
Note: Hawaiian Airlines will refuse to accept swing less golf clubs to either be

Normal baggage fees apply. When in excess each item of golfing equipment will be
subject to the excess baggage charge for a single piece, whether or not
presented as a single piece.
For continental U.S. – Hawaii itineraries: For tickets issued on/after January
21, 2010: Checked baggage fees paid at the airport will be $25 for first checked
bag and $35 for a second checked bag. Customers pre-paying for bags at check-in,
on Hawaiianairlines.com will continue to pay $23 for the first checked bag and
$32 for the second checked bag. (golf clubs do count as a second bag, if you are
traveling on a flight Trans-Pacific or Inter-island fees apply for each checked
piece.
Jet Blue
Golfing Equipment
Golf equipment is accepted on all flights. There is no additional charge for
golf bags as long as they are within size and weight limitations; however, a
golf bag will count as one of your checked bags.
One item of golfing equipment is considered:
One golf bag containing not more than:

one pair of golf shoes

Southwest Air
has this info about traveling with
golf clubs. Golf clubs in a hooded or soft-sided golf bag are conditionally
accepted. Golf clubs that are transported in a hard, plastic travel case should
be tagged with a regular tag. Golf equipment includes golf clubs, golf balls,
and golf shoes, contained in one bag. Golf clubs are not allowed onboard as
carryon items. Southwest Airlines does not charge for your first or second
